ASDAN is a life skills course which is currently taught to key stage four students only.
Through a wide variety of activities and teaching styles we aim to provide students with the skills and knowledge that they will need to be successful when they have left Farringdon School. The course includes taking students out of school to work in the community or with specialist agencies, and bringing outside expertise into school to work with students. One of the fundamental aims of the course is to get students thinking for themselves and taking responsibility for what they do and learn.
Working in partnership with a variety of outside agencies and providers ASDAN is used as the main vehicle to gain accreditation for those students following our appropriate curriculum.
Students can achieve qualification on four levels dependent on the effort they are willing to put into their work.
- Bronze award is the initial target set for every student and requires them to complete a portfolio of work which contains a minimum of two full credits and the associated planning and review sheets.
- Silver award requires the completion of a portfolio of work which contains four full credits and additional planning and review sheets.
- The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness level one is equivalent to GCSE grade E. This qualification is recognised by colleges and employers. To achieve this qualification students are required to produce the same work as for (2) plus additional record sheets, a piece of research work and a more detailed portfolio.
- The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness level two is equivalent to GCSE grade B. To achieve this, students need to complete additional work from section C of the scheme booklet. This generally requires students to undertake more work in their own time and complete work under supervision of their teacher.
