GCSE at a glance

 GCSE begins in Year 10 with preparation work at the end of Year 9. 

All students study AQA GCSE English Language and Literature.

Units include;

•    Reading texts for meaning
•    Poetry
•    A Shakespeare play – ‘Macbeth’
•    Creative writing for purpose
•    Spoken Voice/ Speaking & Listening
•    Pre 19th/ 20th Century novels – ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens and ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell.
 
The GCSE Language assessment includes an oral presentation and discussion and a terminal exam at the end of the course (2 papers). The GCSE Literature assessment includes a terminal exam at the end of the course (2 papers).
